August 6 (Sat) from 5 – 8PM: Hindustani Vocal Recital By Vidushi Sanhita Nandi, accompanied by PT Shantilal Shah on Tabla and Ravi Mishra on Harmonium
Venue: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mount Vernon, Univ of St Thomas (Across from Jones Hall)
Vidushi Sanhita Nandi is a prominent Hindustani classical vocalist of the Kirana Gharana. She was originally trained by late PT. A. Kanan- senior most guru at SRA – Kolkata. She continues to get trained under the able guidance of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan- grandson of Ustaad Abdul Karim Khan, founder of Kirana Gharana She has performed at every major music festival in India such as Sawai Gandharva, Saptak, Havallabh, Tansen Samaroh, to name a few..
On Tabla is our own Pt. Shantilal Shah a long time resident of Houston and one of the most revered Tabla Gurus at IMS Tabla School with over 100 students of all ages. He is a disciple of PT Mahadev Prasad Mishra of Banaras and Taal Yogi PT Suresh Talwalkar Ji. Besides being one of the highly acclaimed teachers, he has accompanied some of the Best of the Best like Pt Jasraj, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Rajan Sajan Mishra, Veena Sahasrabudhe – just to name a few.
On Harmonium is Ravi Mishra who started his music training at the age of 9 under the tutelage of Pt. Kinnar and Payal Seen and later under the guidance of Pt. Ajay Jha. Ravi had the honor of accompanying various artists such as Pt. Anindo Chaterjee, Pt Kumar Bose and other’s. Currently Ravi is learning classical vocal music from Vidushi Sanhita Nandi.
