Not many expect a New York Born to South Indian family, a Columbia University Graduate in Economics, Philosophy and Creative Writing to know much about Indian Classical Music, but Priya Purushotham not only proved critics wrong but also made a career out of Hindustani Classical that too in Agra Gharana.
From a vey young age, Priya took lessons on Carnatic music and western violin. After listening to Hindustani Classical Music for many years while learning Carnatic Music, Priya found the “manodharma” aspect of Hindustani music captivating. At the age of 22, she was introduced to Aditi Kaikini Upadhyaya -a renowned singer of Agra Gharana who is also daughter of Late PT Dinkar Kaikini- who is an authority on Agra Gharana. Priya moved to Bangalore to learn full time with Aditi Ji under Gurukul style of training.
Soon she blossomed into a performing artist with concerts all over India, Europe and US. She is an empaneled artist of ICCR, graded artist of All India Radio and TV.
